We are seeking a Head of Laboratory to oversee and enhance the operational performance of our laboratory areas. This pivotal role involves managing day-to-day operations, ensuring adherence to ISO/UKAS 17025 standards, and leading strategic initiatives to meet business goals while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.

Day-to-Day of the Role:
  • Manage the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
  • Oversee equipment, facilities, and resource utilization to optimize efficiency.
  • Conduct long-term resource planning and continually seek ways to reduce costs and improve turnaround times.
  • Monitor laboratory performance and initiate actions to enhance results.
  • Manage Laboratory Supervisors and provide overall leadership for all laboratory staff.
  • Manage budgets for consumables and oversee procurement and inventory control.
Leadership and Management:
  • Lead and motivate teams to achieve organizational goals, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Set clear performance goals, monitor staff performance, and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Drive innovation and foster a culture of continuous improvement and scientific excellence.
  • Plan and manage laboratory expansions, upgrades, or new initiatives.
Financial and Strategic Planning:
  • Monitor financial performance, develop business strategies to meet revenue and growth targets.
  • Set and track KPIs, presenting findings to senior leadership.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and equipment investments.
Quality, Compliance, and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and manage hazardous materials and waste protocols.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives and maintain documentation.
About You:
  • Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology).
  • Extensive experience in leading and managing laboratory functions in a regulated environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of improving laboratory efficiency and performance.
  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory quality systems and regulatory compliance, particularly ISO/IEC 17025.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
