Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor . Reporting directly to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing strong commercial practices across diverse projects.

While prior experience in civil engineering projects is preferred, it is not essential. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for delivering excellence and who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will:

  • Oversee the measurement and preparation of valuations for various projects.
  • Prepare and negotiate interim valuations and final accounts, ensuring all submissions are accurate and timely.
  • Monitor, record, and analyse the financial performance of contracts, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage project financial accounts and regularly present performance updates to senior management.
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders, presenting detailed financial and project performance reports.
  • Secure timely payments in compliance with contract terms and agreed schedules.
  • Procure subcontractors and manage their accounts throughout project lifecycles.
  • Price pre-contract works, ensure accurate costing, and agree on project costs.
  • Mentor, lead, and support junior members of the team, fostering a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally in construction or civil engineering settings.
  • A degree in Quantity Surveying (preferred) or equivalent qualifications such as HNC/HND.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety, and industry best practices.
  • High levels of motivation and ambition, with a results-focused mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong numeracy and negotiation skills, with attention to detail.

Preferred Skills and Certifications:

  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., RICS), though not essential.
  • Familiarity with NEC forms of contract.
  • Proficiency in IT, including Excel, databases, and the ability to adapt to custom software systems.

  • Leading and mentoring junior staff members, offering guidance on complex projects.

  • Identifying and solving commercial challenges to achieve project goals on time and within budget.
