Financial Controller - Full Time
Location: Annesley, NottinghamSalary: £35,000 - £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Overview:
Our client is a leading logistics provider, offering same-day, accessible, and tailored courier services to businesses across the UK. With a strong reputation for customer service and operational excellence, they are now seeking a commercially astute and experienced Financial Controller to join their team at the Annesley site.
This is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing the full finance function, ensuring financial compliance, enhancing internal processes, and supporting strategic business decisions. The successful candidate will play a vital part in driving financial performance and contributing to the company’s continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily financial operations, including reporting, cash flow management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts and financial statements.
- Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements (VAT, Corporation Tax, PAYE, Companies House filings).
- Lead the year-end audit process and liaise with external auditors and advisors.
- Support strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis and forecasting.
- Maintain strong internal controls and seek continuous improvements in financial systems and processes.
- Provide regular financial reporting and presentations to the senior leadership team.
- Oversee payroll functions, whether managed in-house or through external providers.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks to the business.
- Lead financial projects, including system upgrades and implementations.
- Contribute to commercial decision-making through financial modelling, scenario analysis, and business case development.
Skills & Experience:
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Demonstrable experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
- Strong technical knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience producing statutory accounts and managing audit processes.
- Commercial awareness and ability to support strategic and operational decisions.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with accounting systems (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks, or ERP platforms).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and a commitment to financial accuracy.
Desirable:
- Experience within the haulage or automotive logistics sector, particularly with Amazon bulk services.
- Prior involvement in system implementations or software upgrades.
- Background in SMEs or fast-paced, growing business environments.
