Astutes Power Team are working with a leading Waste Management company with a growing fleet of Energy from Waste Power Stations. The site in Nottingham processes around 180,000 tonnes of waste per year and produces in excess of 250,000 MWh of energy per year.

We are looking for an experienced Control and Instrumentation Technician to join the maintenance team, responsible for carrying out reactive and preventative maintenance across the facility. This will include working on a variety of sensors, emissions monitoring equipment and control systems.

Responsibilities and duties of the Control and Instrumentation Technician role:
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager as a Control and Instrument Technician, you will be responsible for:

  • Pre-planned and reactive maintenance duties on all controls and instrumentation assets across the station
  • Fault finding/maintaining instrumentation (pressure, temperature, level & flow), control systems and Continuous Emissions Monitoring systems (CEMS)
  • Calibrating instrumentation
  • Programming the sites DCS and other PLC systems
  • Conducting continuous improvement activities, plant modifications and design work
  • Assisting with the planning of maintenance activities for planned outages
  • Supervising 3rd party contractors
  • Deputising for your line manager as and when required


Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally apprenticeship trained
  • Qualified with a minimum level 3 qualification in a suitable Engineering discipline
  • IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous


Personal skills
The Control and Instrumentation Technician role would suit someone who has:

  • Experience with the Power Generation process or similar industry such as Incineration (Waste to Energy), Petrochemical, COMAH, Refinery, Papermills etc
  • At least five years industry experience working on C&I equipment including flow / pressure / temperature sensors, PLC's, actuator etc
