Principal Botanist - Midlands / M1 Corridor

£45,000 - £55,000

A respected ecological consultancy is looking for a Principal Botanist. This role is for someone who can combine scientific expertise with practical field expertise - someone as comfortable mentoring a team as they are identifying indicator species in a meadow.

What you'll need:

  • FISC Level 4 - a must for this role, reflecting your depth of botanical knowledge.

  • Extensive field experience - leading botanical surveys and vegetation assessments, with a strong understanding of UK plant ecology and habitats.

  • Leadership skills - proven experience in mentoring and managing teams, with a track record of successfully delivering complex projects.

  • Commercial acumen - the ability to manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality outcomes on time and within budget.

  • Communication skills - the ability to engage clients and contribute to project bids, technical reports, and ecological strategies.

What's on offer:

  • Competitive salary - because expertise deserves recognition.

  • Birthday leave - a day off to mark your special day.

  • Life assurance - for peace of mind, because fieldwork isn't always gentle.

  • Pension contributions - a solid plan for your future.

  • Generous holiday allowance - start at 20 days, rising to 28, plus bank holidays.

  • Private medical insurance - because long days in the field can be hard on a body.

  • Flexible benefits programme - more holidays, health cash plans, or discounted gym memberships for when the field season finally slows down.
