Job Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Upholstery & Assembly Technician to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for stripping old seat upholstery, fitting and trimming covers on new seats, assembling rail seating units, and ensuring all work meets high standards of craftsmanship and quality. This role also includes general housekeeping duties and occasional van driving for operational support.
Key Responsibilities:
* Safely remove old upholstery using the appropriate tools and techniques.
* Inspect seat frames for damage or defects and report findings.
* Dispose of removed materials in line with company and environmental procedures.
* Accurately fit and trim covers onto new seat frames, ensuring a high-quality, tailored finish.
* Align patterns and seams with precision to meet visual and functional standards.
* Carefully package completed seating units for delivery or shipping.
* Ensure all finished products meet the required quality standards and are defect-free.
* Assemble rail seating units following technical drawings and specifications.
* Conduct quality inspections on assembled units for safety and compliance.
* Troubleshoot and resolve issues during the assembly process.
* Keep the work area clean, organized, and free from hazards.
* Clean and maintain tools and equipment regularly.
* Ensure waste and surplus materials are disposed of properly.
* Operate company vans to transport seating units, tools, or materials as required.
* Ensure safe and responsible driving in line with company policies.
Qualifications & Skills:
* Previous experience in upholstery, trimming, or mechanical assembly preferred.
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (for assembly tasks).
* Basic mechanical aptitude and use of hand tools.
* Valid driver's license (for van driving responsibilities).
* Good communication and teamwork skills.
* Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks.
Working Conditions:
* Workshop-based environment with some driving tasks.
* May involve standing for long periods and using hand tools.
