Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading independent planning consultancy in their search for a Senior Town Planner to join their growing team based in Nottingham.

The successful Senior Town Planner will play a key role in managing projects, supporting clients, and helping to drive the continued success of the business.

The Role
As a Senior Town Planner, you'll take responsibility for managing your own caseload of planning projects from inception through to determination. You'll provide expert planning advice to clients, prepare high quality planning submissions, and help mentor junior team members as part of the consultancy's continued expansion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of planning projects across multiple sectors

  • Prepare and submit planning applications, appeals, and site appraisals

  • Lead on client communications, stakeholder engagement, and negotiations

  • Deliver high quality written reports, statements, and supporting documentation

  • Contribute to business development through networking and client relationship management

  • Support and mentor junior members of the team

  • Keep up to date with changes in planning policy and legislation

About You
We're seeking a proactive and ambitious Senior Town Planner who is confident managing projects and client relationships. You'll have a strong technical understanding of the UK planning system and a proven ability to deliver successful outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline

  • MRTPI-qualified (or working towards full accreditation)

  • 3-6 years of experience within a planning consultancy or local authority

  • Excellent understanding of planning policy, development management, and appeals

  • Strong communication and report writing skills

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to deadlines

  • Commercial awareness and confidence in client facing roles

  • A positive, team-oriented attitude and passion for planning
