Progress Teachers are working to appoint a dedicated Behaviour & Pastoral Mentor to support pupils in a local mainstream secondary setting to overcome a range of barriers to education and make positive academic and personal progress.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions to support students with behavioural, emotional, or social difficulties.
  • Act as a key worker for identified students, monitoring progress and liaising with parents, carers and professionals.
  • Develop positive relationships with students to build self-esteem, motivation, and resilience.
  • Assist with behaviour monitoring and analysis, using school data systems.
  • Support reintegration of students following exclusions or extended absences.
  • Contribute to the wider pastoral care provision, including safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Maintain detailed records of interventions and student progress.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Experience working with young people in an educational, youth work, or pastoral setting (essential)
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and child development (essential)
  • A Level 3 qualification in Education, Youth Work, Psychology or a related field (desirable)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solution-focused under pressure
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures (training will be provided)
  • Experience working with external agencies such as CAMHS, Social Services or SEND support (desirable)
