Fixed-term 24 month contract

We’re looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team, supporting the delivery of a major energy restructuring project at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC), alongside a portfolio of other energy-saving schemes—including combined heat and power (CHP) and solar initiatives.

This is a great opportunity to play a key role in driving forward sustainable infrastructure improvements across a range of complex and high-value projects. Working closely with experienced commercial and project delivery teams, you'll help manage project costs, contracts, and financial reporting to ensure successful outcomes for our clients and the environment.

Whether you’re currently studying Quantity Surveying, working towards a relevant qualification, or recently graduated, this role offers the perfect platform to develop your skills and grow your career in a purpose-led environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the commercial team in managing project costs, contracts, and financial reporting across the QMC Carbon Energy Project and other energy-saving schemes.
  • Ensure the correct and timely approval of invoices, validating against applications and coordinating with signatories and accounts payable.
  • Input and maintain client and supplier purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, matching against contracts, and escalating non-conformances where appropriate.
  • Assist in preparing monthly commercial and financial reports, cost value reconciliations, and forecasts for submission to project and finance teams.
  • Provide commercial data and insights to project managers and senior quantity surveyors to support decision-making and cost control.
  • Gain and maintain a full understanding of relevant project processes, obligations, and contracts, proposing solutions to issues where required.
  • Contribute to the continuous development and improvement of commercial systems, processes, and reporting tools.
  • Support procurement activities, including liaising with suppliers, subcontractors, and consultants to obtain quotations and assess best value.
  • Assist in monitoring risks, variations, and change control processes to ensure compliance with contractual and commercial obligations.
  • Work collaboratively with the established commercial and project delivery team to achieve cost, quality, and sustainability objectives on large-scale energy efficiency projects.
What we need from you
  • Proven commercial experience within a relevant industry such as construction, energy, utilities, or infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel, with the ability to manage and analyse complex data.
  • Organised, methodical, and accurate, able to work to tight deadlines while remaining adaptable to changing project demands.
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision and communicate clearly (both written and oral) with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams, clients, and suppliers.

It would be great if you had

  • Working towards, or holding, a formal qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, ideally aligned with RICS standards.
  • Experience in a utilities, construction, or energy project environment
