Catering Manager, Staff Canteen - part of Vertas Group Limited
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Catering Manager to lead the operations of a high-volume staff canteen that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a large team across multiple shifts, ensuring consistent food quality, maintaining strict food safety standards, and operating within a tight budget.
The day to day responsibilities include but are not limited to;
Leadership & Team Management - Lead, motivate, and develop a large, diverse catering team across day, evening, and night shifts.
Ensure adequate staffing and smooth handovers between shifts.
Conduct regular team meetings, training sessions, and performance reviews. Operational Oversight.
Oversee daily food service operations, ensuring high standards of food quality, hygiene, and customer service.
Monitor and manage stock levels, ordering, and deliveries to ensure availability without waste. - Implement and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all shifts. Budget & Cost Control.
Manage the catering budget effectively, ensuring cost-efficiency without compromising quality.
Monitor food and labor costs, identify savings opportunities, and report on financial performance. Compliance & Food Safety.
Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP), health and safety standards, and company policies.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain hygiene and safety standards.
Maintain accurate records and documentation for inspections and audits. Customer Service & Communication'
Act as the main point of contact for staff feedback and service improvements.
Foster a positive dining experience for all employees using the canteen.
Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and internal departments as needed.
Skills and Experience:
Proven experience in catering or hospitality management, ideally in a 24/7 or high-volume environment.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent knowledge of food safety standards and compliance (e.g., HACCP, COSHH). - Budget management and cost control experience.
Ability to work flexibly and oversee operations outside of core hours when necessary. - Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Relevant qualifications in catering, hospitality, or food safety are desirable.
