Rubicon Consultingis currently recruiting for a Fitter on a permanent basis based in the South West.

Role Summary

The Fitter/Wireman will work as part of our operational delivery team on the NGED network, carrying out installation, maintenance, repair, and commissioning activities on electricity distribution assets. The role requires strict adherence to safety, quality, and regulatory standards while ensuring works are completed efficiently and in line with NGED specifications and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out fitting and wiring activities on LV and HV distribution networks in accordance with NGED standards, drawings, and work instructions.

Install, terminate, test, and commission cables, switchgear, substations, and associated electrical equipment.

Undertake maintenance, fault finding, and repair works on distribution assets.

Ensure all work is completed safely, following NGED health, safety, and environmental procedures.

Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and specifications.

Complete all required documentation accurately, including permits, test results, and as-built records.

Work effectively as part of a team, liaising with supervisors, control rooms, and other stakeholders.

Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles in a safe and serviceable condition.

Support outage planning and restoration activities where required.

Uphold our values and represent the company professionally on site and with clients.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Comply fully with the Electricity at Work Regulations, HSG47, and all NGED safety rules and procedures.

Actively promote a strong safety culture, including reporting near misses, hazards, and unsafe conditions.

Ensure all work is carried out under the appropriate safety documentation (e.g. permits, isolations, and risk assessments).

Adhere to environmental and quality management systems at all times.

Requirements

Skills & Experience

Proven experience as a Fitter/Wireman within the electricity distribution sector.

Experience working on or around LV/HV networks, preferably on NGED assets.

Ability to understand and work from electrical drawings and specifications.

Strong commitment to health, safety, and quality.

Previous experience working directly for or with NGED (preferred)

Experience in substation installation, refurbishment, or cable works.

Fault-finding and testing experience on distribution networks.

Qualifications & Authorisations

Relevant electrical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Power Engineering or similar).

Current UK driving licence.

NGED authorisations or the ability to obtain them.
