Join our team as a Payroll Officer to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in compliance with employment rules and UK payroll laws. This role is crucial for maintaining employee satisfaction by ensuring everyone is paid correctly and on time.
Day-to-day of the role:- Process weekly and monthly payrolls accurately and on time.
- Make necessary adjustments to ensure correct payments.
- Help meet payroll deadlines and communicate them across the organisation.
- Improve payroll processes and efficiency.
- Handle sick pay calculations and related admin.
- Process claims like overtime and expenses.
- Balance payroll accounts (e.g., PAYE, pensions).
- Assist with year-end tasks like reporting benefits to HMRC and employees.
- Support staff with pay and employment condition queries.
- Step in for the Senior Payroll Advisor when needed.
- Work closely with the wider HR team to support overall goals.
- GCSEs in Maths and English (A–C) or equivalent, or a payroll qualification (e.g., CIPP, NVQ Level 3) or willingness to complete one within 18 months.
- Experience using payroll/HR systems to manage large data sets.
- Handling PAYE and pension reporting.
- Suggesting and implementing process improvements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of payroll laws and benefits, Local Government Pension Scheme, and data protection and confidentiality.
- Skills in prioritising tasks, making decisions, clear communication (written and verbal), teamwork and collaboration.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
