Your New Company

Hays Education is working on behalf of a well-established Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) located in Oldham, Greater Manchester. This specialist setting supports secondary-aged pupils who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. Many students have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and some may have additional learning difficulties or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The school is committed to providing a safe, structured, and nurturing environment where students can re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and make progress both academically and personally. With small class sizes, a strong pastoral team, and a therapeutic approach to behaviour, the school offers a unique and rewarding teaching environment.

Your New Job

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Maths Teacher to join the school on a full-time basis, starting ASAP. This is a long-term role with a strong likelihood of being extended into the new academic year and potentially becoming permanent. You will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated Maths lessons to KS3 and KS4 pupils
  • Adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of learners with SEMH and behavioural challenges
  • Work closely with support staff and the SENCO to implement personalised learning plans
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes resilience and self-esteem
  • Contribute to the wider school community and support the school's ethos of restorative practice

What You'll Need to Succeed

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS)
  • Experience teaching Maths at secondary level (KS3 and KS4)
  • A strong understanding of SEMH and behaviour management strategies
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to teaching in a specialist setting
  • A good sense of humour
