Our client, Oldham Council, is seeking a Children's Social Worker to join their Safeguarding & Care Planning Team.

Responsibilities of this role:

  • Prepare for involvement by understanding each child’s journey and family situation.
  • Assess children’s needs, risks, and parents’ ability to change, keeping the child’s safety and wellbeing central.
  • Create, review, and deliver tailored plans with families to support positive outcomes, using a whole-family approach.
  • Work directly with children, families, and carers to understand their experiences and help improve their lives.
  • Respond to safeguarding concerns by following policies and procedures when harm is suspected.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to ensure the best support for children and families.
  • Support families early to avoid crisis, but respond effectively when crises occur, including using legal measures if needed.
  • Keep case records accurate, timely, and respectful, following practice standards.
  • Take part in meetings and decision-making forums, and lead meetings when needed.
  • Advocate for children and families within policy boundaries.
  • Write clear reports and share relevant data when required.
  • Guide and support less experienced staff, including mentoring, buddying, or supervising students.
  • Participate in supervision, reflect on your work, and identify learning needs.
  • Embrace changes in practice, including using digital tools.
  • Report service issues and suggest improvements.
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and development.
  • Be flexible and ready to take on tasks from lower-graded roles to ensure full support for children and families.

Requirements of this role:

  • Must be a Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.
  • Must have minimum of 3 years post qualifying social work experience
