We are recruiting for a Homelessness Prevention Officer to join a team with the local authority in Oldham.

Are you passionate about helping people in crisis and preventing homelessness? The local authority is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Homelessness Prevention Officer to join their Strategic Housing team. This is your opportunity to play a vital role in supporting residents at risk of homelessness and ensuring they receive the advice, support, and services they need.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Homelessness Prevention Officer, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality, customer-focused housing advice and support.
  • Conduct homelessness assessments and develop Personal Housing Plans.
  • Work with individuals and families to prevent homelessness through tailored interventions.
  • Liaise with partner agencies to address complex needs such as mental health, substance misuse, and financial hardship.
  • Provide emergency housing support, including out-of-hours services on a rota basis.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.

We’re seeking someone who:

  • Has experience working with vulnerable individuals and understands the challenges of homelessness.
  • Can communicate complex legal information clearly and compassionately.
  • Is confident working independently and as part of a team.
  • Has strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to casework.
  • Is committed to equality, diversity, and delivering excellent public service.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or equivalent.
  • Experience in housing advice, homelessness prevention, or related support services.
  • Strong IT and case management skills.

Desirable:

  • Relevant Level 3 qualification in advice, advocacy, or housing-related services.

This temporary role is for an initial 1 month, working full-time paying between £15.77 - £17.69 per hour PAYE. An Umbrella equivalent is also available.
