Secondary SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Are you someone who genuinely wants to make a difference in the lives of young people? We’re looking for a caring and committed Learning Support Assistant to join our secondary school team in Bromley, supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role is ideal for someone who’s patient, empathetic, and passionate about helping students overcome challenges and reach their potential.

What the Role Involves:

  • Providing tailored support to students with SEMH needs, helping them stay engaged in lessons and school life.
  • Working closely with teachers to adapt learning activities and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with students and being someone they feel comfortable talking to.
  • Leading small group sessions and offering one-to-one support to boost learning and confidence.
  • Supporting students in developing social skills and emotional resilience.
  • Keeping accurate records of progress and behaviour and sharing updates with the wider team.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • A good understanding of the emotional and behavioural challenges some students face.
  • Someone who is calm, patient, and genuinely enjoys working with young people.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • A flexible, proactive approach — no two days are the same.
  • Qualifications in education, psychology, or youth work are a plus, but not essential.
