Production Manager

On behalf of our client, a precision engineering business based in Dorset, we are recruiting for an experienced Production Manager to lead and optimise their manufacturing operations.

This business has built a strong reputation for its work ethic, engineering excellence, and commitment to delivering the highest levels of service to its customers. They are now seeking a driven and experienced Production Manager who can bring a wealth of precision engineering knowledge and strong leadership capability to support continued success and growth.

The Role

The Production Manager will take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of production, ensuring work flows efficiently through the business and that customer deadlines are consistently achieved. This is a senior leadership role, requiring a hands-on individual who understands manufacturing best practice and can motivate, mentor, and drive a production team forward.

The successful candidate will play a key role in optimising production performance across time, cost, quality, and delivery, while embedding a culture of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing. A motivator, who can lead by example and ensure the team work together to fulfil customers requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and develop the production team to meet operational and customer requirements
  • Plan and control production schedules to ensure on-time delivery
  • Manage workflow across all stages of the manufacturing process
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives with a strong CI and lean manufacturing focus
  • Optimise productivity, efficiency, and resource utilisation
  • Ensure quality standards, procedures, and health & safety requirements are met
  • Mentor, motivate, and develop team members, building a high-performance culture
  • Communicate effectively across departments including engineering, quality, purchasing, and sales
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve manufacturing flow
  • Support the introduction of new processes, systems, and equipment

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a Production Manager or similar leadership role within a precision engineering or machining environment
  • Strong background in CNC machining and manufacturing processes
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing workflows, production planning, and shop floor operations
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop teams
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • CI-focused mindset with hands-on experience of lean manufacturing principles
  • Commercial awareness with the ability to balance quality, cost, and delivery
