TMD Building Consultancy is an award-winning, independent Chartered Surveying and Architectural practice, with offices in London and Oxford. We are seeking to strengthen our architectural department with a Senior Architect who will lead Oxford’s architectural team and report to the Architectural Lead in London.

We require a candidate who excels in collaborative environments, possesses significant technical expertise, and is prepared to take a proactive role in shaping the built environment through design excellence and effective project delivery. This role suits individuals committed to both hands-on engagement and strategic leadership, offering meaningful contributions to projects as well as supporting growth within the team.

Duties

As Senior Architect, you will be integral to delivering design solutions, providing technical guidance, and ensuring cohesive project execution. You will be based in TMD’s Oxford office and report both to to the Architectural Team Lead in London, and the local Oxford directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop comprehensive architectural drawings, plans, and specifications using BIM software (primarily Revit, occasionally AutoCAD) across all RIBA Stages (0–7).
  • Prepare building regulation submissions, including schedules that demonstrate compliance with approved documents and fulfill the company’s wider BR PD obligations. Demonstrate your competence as a designer under the Building Safety Act.
  • Compile and submit planning applications.
  • Guarantee all work adheres to relevant codes, regulations, and sustainability standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, and contractors to preserve design intent throughout each project phase.
  • Present feasibility studies and technical design details confidently to client groups and project stakeholders.
  • Oversee architectural deliverables from the Oxford office, review the work of team members, and serve as a mentor within the team.
  • Coordinate with the London architectural team to develop unified standards across both offices.
  • Assist in procuring materials, products, and finishes, and collaborate on the production of NBS specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and surveys, monitor project progress, and resolve technical challenges by producing construction details where necessary.
  • Generate 3D visualisations, renders, and presentation materials.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation and records.

The Person

Has at least 8 years’ experience as an architect or architectural technologist, and a recognised professional qualification. Confident working on all stages of projects, from design development to delivery. Strong communication skills and comfortable presenting ideas or technical details to different groups. Shows initiative, solves problems, and stays calm under pressure.

Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and 3D modelling. Pays close attention to detail, checks work for accuracy, and cares about quality. Supports team members, helps set shared standards across offices, and values collaboration. Flexible with changing priorities and open to new ways of working, including hybrid arrangements.
