Overview:An excellent locum opportunity has become available for a Band 6 Biomedical Scientist to join a high-performing NHS Histology laboratory in Oxford. This contract role is ideal for an experienced professional seeking flexibility, high pay rates, and the chance to work with a supportive pathology team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and specialist histological techniques including microtomy, embedding, H&E staining, and immunohistochemistry.

  • Operate and troubleshoot automated tissue processors and staining instruments.

  • Conduct quality control checks to maintain diagnostic accuracy and UKAS standards.

  • Work collaboratively with laboratory colleagues and pathologists to ensure smooth workflow.

  • Support continuous service development and participate in audit activities as required.

Requirements:

  • HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist (Histology discipline).

  • Strong post-registration experience within an NHS histopathology setting.

  • Competent in microtomy, embedding, and IHC techniques.

  • Familiar with COSHH, Health & Safety protocols, and UKAS/ISO standards.

  • Able to work independently and meet turnaround time KPIs.

Contract Details:

  • Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.

  • Immediate start available.

  • Initial 3-month contract with strong likelihood of extension.

  • Flexible working hours may be considered.
