Specialist Teaching Assistant

We are working with a great specialist school in Oxford who are dedicated to providing a safe and supportive environment for students who struggle with severe mental health needs. As a specialist teaching assistant, you will play an important role in ensuring that all students are achieving their personal and academic goals.

The school looking for a passionate specialist support assistant are based in Oxford and are looking to add someone to their team starting asap! They need someone with a genuine passion for education and mental health, and someone who is keen to make a difference!

As a specialist teaching assistant your role will include providing specialised and tailored support to students, through the facilitation of their educational health care plans and intervention plans. You will be involved in the development of student's social skills, emotional regulation and academic engagement, and ensure that all students are able to access their education in the same ways as their mainstream peers.

The responsibilities of a Specialist Teaching Assistant:

  • Develop and implement individual support plans in collaboration with educational staff
  • Monitor and track student progress, reporting on emotional and behavioural changes
  • Provide individualised support to students, addressing their emotional, social, and educational needs.
  • Help model healthy coping strategies and social skills
  • Support and encourage emotional awareness
  • Help create a safe and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning

The ideal Specialist Teaching Assistant will have:

  • Experience supporting children and young people with educational needs and social, emotional and mental health needs will be beneficial but not essential
  • Educational background in Psychology, Criminology or Education will be advantageous
  • Strong communication skills
  • An enhanced DBS certificate or willingness to apply for one
