Junior Doctor, Clinical Research Physician

Join the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) at a leading centre for research into the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. We are seeking a Clinical Trial Physician to assist in the development and monitoring of trials, particularly focusing on the ASCEND PLUS trial. This role offers the opportunity to work within a world-renowned research environment and contribute to significant advancements in medical science.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Develop and implement trial procedures to ensure efficient conduct of the trial, focusing on monitoring the safety of trial participants.
  • Assess eligibility of participants to join the trial.
  • Handle clinical queries from collaborators, doctors, patients, and their staff.
  • Code and report serious adverse events and deaths.
  • Assist in the clinical monitoring of safety data and preparation of regulatory reports and key study documents.
  • Communicate effectively with trial participants, healthcare professionals, the wider trials team, and collaborators.
  • Deliver training for research nurses.
  • Prepare scientific articles for publication and present findings at various scientific meetings.
  • Maintain collaboration and liaise with investigators, trial staff, and colleagues both in the UK and internationally.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Medically qualified and GMC registered with a valid licence to practice.
  • Strong foundation in clinical medicine (ideally MRCP [Parts 1 and 2] or FRCPath [Parts 1 and 2]) or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and an interest in randomised clinical trials.

Desirable:

  • Specialty training (ongoing or completed) in diabetes or cardiology.
  • Experience in population health research.
  • Interest in the reliable evaluation of treatment and epidemiology.
