Electrical and Control Project Engineer

Location- Essex
A specialist chemical refinery and leading supplier of high-value hydrocarbon-based products and solutions. They manufacture and supply a wide range of products including specialty fuels (such as racing and performance fuels), solvents, distillates, and aromatics. Their operations serve industries like automotive, aviation, energy, and industrial manufacturing.
A new oppertunity for a proactive and experienced Electrical and Controls Project Engineer to join our EC&I Department. You’ll lead and support a range of electrical, instrumentation and control system projects – ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation of plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, commission, and validate electrical and control systems for new and modified plant in accordance with COMAH regulations.
- Design of motor control circuits, control systems, and LV/hazardous area cable circuits.
- Specify equipment for use in ATEX-zoned environments.
- Produce control system specifications, safety parameters, and validation documentation.
- Manage project resources, materials, contractors, costs, and timelines.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, stakeholders, and suppliers.
- Ensure documentation, inspections, and modifications are appropriately recorded and shared.
- Uphold all site safety, environmental, and quality procedures (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 50001).
Key Skills & Experience
- Demonstrated design experience in electrical systems including HV/LV and hazardous area installations (to EN60079).
- Strong background in PLC, DCS, and field instrumentation – including intrinsically safe systems.
- Knowledge of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
- Experience managing capital projects, major shutdowns, or working within CDM environments.
- Familiar with AutoCAD, Maintenance Management Systems, project documentation and handover processes.
- Proven ability to assess and review method statements, risk assessments, and change management procedures.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
