MERJE is seeking a talented Financial Risk Manager for a leading Building Society in the UK. This exciting opportunity offers a chance to work with a well-established financial institution, managing risk strategies and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Location: Cumbria (Very Hybrid)

The Role:

As a Financial Risk Manager, you would be reporting to the Head of Financial, Strategic & Enterprise Risk and you will be supporting them to oversee financial risk management for the Society.

Key Responsibilities of the Financial Risk Manager:

  • Support the Head of Financial, Strategic & Enterprise Risk to embed, review, and recommend appropriate and effective risk management assessment, measurement and reporting
  • Review and challenge of key prudential policy documents, including Financial Risk Management Policy, ICAAP, ILAAP, Funding Plan, Recovery and Resolution planning.
  • Preparation and presentation of Risk reports to ALCO and Board on key deliverables to summarise risk review work undertaken and provide opinion and recommendations.
  • Review and challenge of financial modelling, including assumptions and scenarios used
  • Undertake interpretation of existing prudential regulation as required and changes to prudential regulation as they arise.
  • Periodic review of regulatory reporting, including key capital and liquidity returns.
  • Provide oversight to annual financial planning process.
  • Review and oversight of monthly MI and ALCO reporting to assess compliance with financial risk metrics and oversee accurate preparation.
  • Review and oversight of RCSA landscape for Treasury and Finance.
  • Oversight of Treasury financial management strategy outputs, including hedging, prepayment assumptions, counterparty credit risk and encumbrance.
  • Participation in projects and prudential programmes relating to financial risk management

Required knowledge and experience for the Financial Risk Manager role:

  • Proven experience in financial risk management
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements especially Capital and Liquidity
  • Good understanding of Balance Sheet and experience in Treasury and Finance functions
  • Experience in Prudential regulatory reporting and Financial Risk reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with advanced Excel
  • Demonstrable experience of Stakeholder engagement and relationship building.
  • Relevant qualifications in finance, risk management, or a related field
