Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor - Highways (Hybrid - Penrith)

Your new role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior or Managing Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of a major highways project based near Penrith, with the flexibility of hybrid working. This role offers the chance to take ownership of high-value packages, lead a commercial team, and work closely with operational stakeholders to ensure the successful financial delivery of key project milestones.



Responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the commercial function across multiple highway work packages

  • Preparing and reviewing cost forecasts, valuations, and applications for payment

  • Managing subcontract procurement, payments, and final accounts

  • Overseeing change control, early warnings, and contract administration

  • Ensuring compliance with NEC or similar contract forms

  • Supporting commercial strategy and advising operational teams on cost risks

  • Leading and mentoring junior surveyors within the team

  • Reporting regularly to senior management and clients



What you will need to succeed:

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline

  • Strong background in highways, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects

  • Proven experience in a Senior or Managing QS role

  • Strong knowledge of NEC contracts and commercial procedures

  • Excellent attention to detail and financial reporting skills

  • Capable of working independently and managing multiple priorities

  • Confident communicator with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Full UK driving licence
