Job Purpose:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our expanding practice based in Peterborough. This role is responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing financial reporting, ensuring statutory compliance, and mentoring junior staff. The successful candidate will act as the primary point of contact for clients, providing expert guidance and ensuring accurate financial operations. This is an office-based role with travel in/around the Peterborough area.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Client Portfolio Management:
- Manage the full lifecycle of client relationships, from onboarding to ongoing service
- Act as the main point of contact for client communications (email, WhatsApp, phone)
- Monitor and report financial dashboards and KPIs for client portfolios
- Ensure timely collection of fees and manage debt book
- Support client transition to automated payment systems (e.g., GoCardless)
Accounts & Tax Responsibilities:
- Oversee preparation of business accounts and corporation tax returns
- Ensure accurate bookkeeping, data entry, and full bank reconciliations
- Review VAT returns and management accounts prepared by junior team members
- Ensure compliance with FRS 102/105 in annual accounts
- Ensure timely submission of statutory accounts, tax returns, and confirmation statements
Payroll Oversight:
- Oversee payroll processes for client portfolio, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Collaborate with payroll team to address queries and ensure timely
Person Specification:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for managing client relationships
- Strong leadership qualities and mentoring ability
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Proactive, independent, and solution-focused
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and tech-savvy environment
- Goal-oriented with a track record of meeting financial
Experience:
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice
- Strong knowledge of accounting, taxation, and statutory compliance
- Proficiency in accounting software: Xero, QuickBooks, Sage Line 50, PeopleSoft, and Excel
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage a complex and varied client portfolio
Hours of Work:
- 37.5 hours (Monday - Friday)
