Administrative Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly organized and friendly Administrative Assistant to join our clients' busy GP surgery. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the practice by providing administrative and clerical support to the healthcare team and delivering excellent service to patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Greet and assist patients in person and over the phone in a professional and courteous manner
  • Schedule and manage patient appointments using the practice’s clinical system
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation
  • Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and post
  • Process repeat prescription requests and liaise with pharmacies as needed
  • Support the clinical team with administrative tasks such as scanning, filing, and data entry
  • Ensure the reception area is tidy and welcoming
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, audits, and other documentation
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data protection regulations at all times
  • Perform other duties as required to support the smooth operation of the surgery
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in an administrative or receptionist role, preferably in a healthcare setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and clinical systems (e.g., EMIS, SystmOne – if applicable)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience working in a GP surgery or NHS environment
  • First aid or basic life support training
Working Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, 3 or 4 days a week
