Senior Design Engineer

Alecto Recruitment are partnering with an established company within the Anaerobic Digestion sector, which is growing its portfolio of AD facilities across England. Our client is looking for a Senior Design Engineer with extensive experience in feasibility studies, P&ID's and HAZOPs to join their growing team.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct full technical feasibility studies through to project completion and handover, including detailed design.
  • Prepare technical specifications for all major AD plant packages.
  • Develop process deliverables: PFDs, calculations, P&IDs, control philosophy (FDS), Cause & Effect, and supporting lists (line, valve, instrument, equipment, etc.).
  • Review mechanical and electrical Balance of Plant scopes for the complete AD facility.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, commissioning, performance testing, and handover.
  • Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, and SIL studies.
  • Maintain and update Design and CDM Risk Registers.
  • Use design and modelling software (AutoCAD, 3D CAD, etc.) for design development and ALM assessments.
  • Provide technical input in design, engineering, and progress meetings.
  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and site teams throughout design and construction.
  • Review supplier technical documentation for AD plant systems.
  • Compile final documentation, including as-built drawings, test sheets, and datasheets, into O&M manuals.
  • Manage and review QA deliverables, including FAT/SAT documentation.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience working with multi-disciplinary engineering teams in anaerobic digestion or biomethane sector or similar.
  • Looking for enthusiastic problem solvers with good analytical skill and experience in Root Cause Analysis.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree or equivalent in Chemical, Process, Mechanical or similar
  • 5 to 10 years' experience in Anaerobic Digestion, biogas/biomethane, and biomethane injection
  • Good understanding of boundary conditions including electro-mechanical features for major packages
  • Understanding regulations and guidance for Biomethane, CO2 capture, DSEAR regulations
  • Good understanding of Engineering standards (Mechanical and Electrical) for a typical AD plant /packages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, with good organisational and time management skills.
  • Good knowledge of CAD and 3D modelling experience
  • Experience in CFD modelling will be added advantage
  • Good IT skills including experience on Microsoft Project
  • Full UK driving licence, prepared for regular UK and occasional overseas travel
