Junior Electrical Design Engineer
Peterborough
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the design of MCC panels, including motor circuits, safety circuits, PLC equipment and panel layouts
- Support the production of I/O configurations, I/O lists, material specifications and bills of materials
- Prepare and update cable lists, basic sizing calculations, electrical test sheets and single-line diagrams
- Assist with cable routing design, containment sizing and updates to building layout drawings
- Support the preparation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) in line with CDM regulations
- Assist with on-site modifications to electrical hardware and panels (24VDC, 230VAC, 415VAC) under supervision
- Take part in electrical testing and basic fault-finding activities on site
- Work closely with senior engineers and other disciplines to learn best practices and improve design quality
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Technical/Vocational qualification or degree in Electrical Engineering, or C&G Level 3 / NVQ Level 3
- Working knowledge of BS7671 and general electrical safety requirements
- Some experience or exposure to AutoCAD, EPLAN, Amtech or similar electrical design software
- Basic understanding of PLCs, drives and control gear (e.g. Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider)
- Comfortable using Excel and standard engineering documentation
- Willingness to learn, ask questions and develop technical skills
- Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel occasionally (UK and limited overseas)
Desirable (Not Essential)
- Previous experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment
- Exposure to MCC panels, control panels or site-based electrical work
- Awareness of commissioning or testing activities
