As a Fire Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, analysis, and implementation of fire safety solutions. You will collaborate with architects, designers, and clients throughout the design and construction process-helping to ensure compliance with evolving legislation and delivering creative, practical fire strategies that enhance safety and performance.

The Fire Engineer's Role and Responsibilities

  • Prepare fire strategy reports and work closely with stakeholders throughout all stages of the design process.
  • Assist clients in meeting the requirements of relevant legislation, including the Building Safety Act 2022, the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), and the Fire Safety Order (as amended).
  • Carry out analysis of fire risk and provide clear, evidence-based guidance on suitable control measures.
  • Support internal design teams as part of multi-disciplinary projects across a range of sectors.
  • Work on varied buildings and fire-safety challenges, applying a methodical and solutions-driven approach.
  • Undertake regular communication with client teams to co-ordinate programmes of inspections and remedial works.
  • Take particulars on site, prepare schedules of work, develop specifications, obtain estimates, and monitor on-site progress to ensure compliance.
  • Provide expert advice on Building Regulations applications and fire-related matters.
  • Work within fixed budgets and deadlines, applying a practical and disciplined approach to problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Fire Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience preparing fire strategies, conducting fire engineering analyses, or advising on fire-related Building Regulations matters.
  • A strong understanding of UK fire-safety legislation, design standards, and risk-assessment methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, with confidence working directly with clients and design teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Membership of, or working towards, a professional body such as the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) is desirable.
  • Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel when required

Salary: 45,000 - 55,000
