Job Title: Assistant HR OfficerLocation: Crownhill Police Station, Plymouth (Hybrid Working)Contract Type: Temporary – 6 MonthsWorking Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon–Thurs 09:00–17:00, Fri 09:00–16:00)Umbrella Rate: £17.80 per hourStart Date: ASAPAbout the Role:We are currently seeking a highly organised and proactive Assistant HR Officer to join a dynamic HR Operations Delivery team in Plymouth. This opportunity has arisen due to the resignation of the current post holder and is initially offered as a 6-month temporary assignment, with hybrid working arrangements following the completion of training.In this pivotal support role, you’ll work closely with HR colleagues and managers, providing operational HR support and first-line advice on a range of employee matters. You’ll also manage the HR inbox, collate and present data, and support the effective delivery of people management procedures.Key Responsibilities:
  • Be the first point of contact for HR queries from managers and staff
  • Manage and triage the team inbox
  • Draft correspondence and collate HR data into clear, presentable formats
  • Support HR colleagues in handling attendance, performance, grievance, and probation cases
  • Liaise effectively with internal teams, managers, trade unions, and the police federation
  • Use HR systems and tools confidently to track and manage cases
Work Pattern:Hybrid working available after training with 3 office days per week following a structured 2-week rota. Office presence is required each Thursday (09:00–17:00).About You:Essential:
  • Experience in an HR environment supporting people management
  • Strong attention to detail and IT skills (e.g., drafting letters, data collation)
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently as well as part of a team
  • Resilient and confident in handling challenging situations
Desirable:
  • Previous experience using HR systems and reporting tools
  • Knowledge of attendance, performance, grievance, and probation policies
