EHS Engineer | High-Volume Manufacturing
Are you an EHS professional with a background in complex engineering or high-volume manufacturing? We are looking for an EHS Engineer to join a global leader in Medical Technology at their Plymouth manufacturing facility.
This is a pivotal role where you will balance technical safety engineering with environmental sustainability. You will be a key driver in maintaining a "safety-first" culture while overseeing the site's Environmental Management System and sustainability targets.
Location: Plymouth
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: 40,000 - 45,000 GBP
The Role
As the EHS Engineer, you will ensure the site remains compliant with all UK health, safety, and environmental legislation. You will act as a subject matter expert for both leadership and shop-floor associates, ensuring that as the plant grows and innovates, its people and the environment remain protected.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance & Auditing: Manage the site's ISO14001 certification and lead internal/external audits (HSE, Environment Agency, etc.).
Technical Safety: Conduct detailed risk assessments on high-speed assembly equipment and approve safety sections of Change Control documentation.
Environmental Impact: Monitor and report on utilities consumption (energy, water, waste) and drive reduction initiatives.
Incident Management: Lead accident/near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing preventive actions.
COSHH Management: Maintain the site's chemical safety database and ensure suitable control measures are in place across all departments.
Training: Develop and deliver EHS training for new hires and existing staff to promote a proactive safety culture.
About You
You are a detail-oriented professional who understands the unique challenges of a 24/7 manufacturing environment. You can build strong relationships with engineering teams to ensure safety is integrated into the design and installation of new machinery.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Education: BSc or BEng in a Health & Safety or Engineering discipline.
Certification: NEBOSH, IOSH, or NVQ H&S qualification is essential.
Experience: Proven EHS experience within a high-volume manufacturing or complex engineering environment.
Technical Knowledge: A strong understanding of machinery safety, workplace transport, and COSHH.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Systems: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with EHS management software.
Preferred (but not essential):
Project management or team leadership experience.
A recognized Engineering qualification.
