Experienced Planner / Buyer required for well renown Engineering company based in Plymouth. The successful candidate will be required to organise production according to demand and quality standards to achieve on time delivery. You will be the one to ensure incoming material is delivered on time and ensure schedule adherence. You will be well-versed in production procedures and ways to optimise them as well as building relationships with suppliers and shopfloor staff.

Key Role Requirements:

  • Responsibility for material scheduling, updating and maintaining databases efficiently to achieve on time delivery.
  • To confirm orders, within capacity, and monitor progress through all production areas ensuring adherence to level loaded confirmation dates.
  • To control the inventory levels from supplied material through to final finished product awaiting shipment.
  • Identify the risks and threats in the Supply Chain. Process requisitions and update management on status of orders.
  • Ensure compliance of purchased materials to our internal specifications.
  • Arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Expedite internal and external orders and as required of raw material and components in order to support schedules such as air freighting if required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Drive inventory reduction.
  • Monitor Supplier Spending.
  • To improve on time delivery of finished product and supplier performance.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Candidate Attributes required:

  • Proven experience having worked as a Planner / Buyer / Material Controller or Production Scheduler within a Lean Manufacturing or Engineering environment.
  • Experience using MRP or ERP systems – Preferably SAP.
  • Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to develop strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent Excel profiency.
  • Analysis of existing processes using data to encourage data driven decision making and to make improvements.
  • Highly Analytical and positive mindset.
  • Project planning experience.
  • A self starter and team player with the proven ability to deliver results that are benefial to the commercial needs of the business.

Desirable Qualifications and Knowledge (non essential):

  • Knowledge of six sigma methodology would be highly benefical.
  • APICS/CPIM Qualification is highly advantageous.
