The purpose of the role is to manage the material purchasing for sites for the region through effective and efficient controls whilst working under guidance from the Group Procurement team, meeting strict standards, maintaining the project programme and producing reports to allow senior management to establish site status.
Primary Responsibilities
- To primarily be responsible for the buying for up to 6 sites of varying complexity ensuring Site Managers queries and requisitions are processed promptly and efficiently to ensure build programmes and quality are maintained
- Scheduling of materials from drawings to raise purchase orders for Site Managers to call off, accurately and efficiently to maintain building on time and within budget
- Producing material cost analysis to ensure competitive prices and budgets are maintained to add to the profitability for the region
- Keep abreast with latest building products and new legislation so that we may maintain company standards
- Ensuring orders are raised in accordance with Persimmon Group Procurement Procedures so that the business maintains consistency and quality of build
- Utilise the Persimmon Group COINS system and assist the Quantity Surveyor to set up new sites and establish budgets, allowing management to predict site profitability
- Liaison with other departments on time to ensure sites run efficiently (Construction, Sales, Customer Care, Accounts)
- Comply with responsibilities as defined in the Group's Health, Safety & Environment Policy and ensure compliance with the same throughout the team to promote safety in the way we build projects
- Take the lead of the buying team and ensure that KPIs are maintained in all areas
- Given proven experience the role will potentially involve mentoring and training junior members of the team and developing their skills to a sufficient level where they can take on more responsibility and add value to the team, thus improving productivity within the region
- On occasion provide assistance to the Commercial Manager/ Director when making key business decisions and attend regular regional meetings as the relevant subject expert
- A confident and numerate professional who has previous Buyer experience within a construction company and can provide take offs from drawings
- Be self-motivated, asks questions, wants to learn and has a good work ethic
- Must be adaptable, have a strong and consistent management style with the site teams and supply chain
- Must be proficient in Excel
- Confident negotiation skills
- Previous COINS experience is a distinct advantage
- Full Driving licence is essential
