Financial Controller, Havant / Portsmouth, c£65000 + Benefits

This is a permanent, full-time, office-based role.

Working for a successful and growing SME business, our client is looking for a commercially minded Financial Controller to support the MD and lead a small team, overseeing all aspects of financial management, including the preparation of financial reports, budgeting, and compliance with statutory and financial regulations.

About the job:

  • Responsible for the full 360 finance function, managing a finance team of 3.
  • Preparation of all reporting, including monthly financial statements, reconciliations, VAT, P&L, B/S, audit, budgets, costings analysis, forecasting, and year-end financial reports.
  • Audit preparation and liaison with external auditors.
  • Advise on process improvements and identify any issues with the transactional accounting.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory law and financial regulations.
  • Support Management by providing robust analysis, financial planning and risk management strategies.
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analysing results; initiating corrective actions; and minimising the impact of variances.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that are aligned with the company's overall goals.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in an FC, FD, FM or Head of Finance type role.
  • “Hands-on” practical approach with a strong understanding of commercial finance.
  • Confident communication and leadership skills, able to manage small teams and liaise with finance and non-finance stakeholders alike.
  • A solid understanding of financial accounting principles and practices and a statutory legislation and regulations.

This role will suit a well-skilled qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent – exceptional QBE experienced candidates may also be considered) with a broad all-round accounting skillset and at least 10 years experience in a senior finance role looking to commit and to add value and support this successful business as it continues to grow long term.
