Electrical Engineer - Hybrid - Portsmouth

Are you an experienced Electrical Engineer ready to make an impact in the defence and space sector? Our client is looking for a skilled professional to join the team in Portsmouth, where they develop and support satellite communication terminals for land, sea and air platforms. This is a hybrid working role, offering a mix of remote flexibility and on-site collaboration at our clients Portsmouth facility.

Please note: due to the requirements of this position, SC clearance will be required.

About the Role

As an Electrical Engineer, you'll be at the heart of our client's product development process. You'll take architecture requirements and turn them into detailed specifications, define system interfaces, and produce circuit and system diagrams. You'll ensure designs meet electrical safety standards and carry out detailed CAD/CAM work at the component and equipment level. You'll also define testing strategies and validate your designs, working closely with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams throughout the product lifecycle-from concept to in-service support.

Requirements

  • Educated to Degree Level or equivalent in a recognised engineering discipline (as recognised by the IET).
  • Strong knowledge of electronics and electromagnetics at system/component level.
  • Experience with analogue and digital circuit design, PCB layout, schematic capture and EMC/EMI.
  • Familiarity with electrical test and measurement techniques.
  • Understanding of Configuration Management processes and product lifecycle collaboration.
  • Ability to work across disciplines from design through to production and support.

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of the IET or equivalent body.
  • Knowledge of military standards in the maritime domain (e.g. DEF-STAN 59-411, MIL-STD-461).
  • Experience with military satellite communications systems.
  • Familiarity with E3D for circuit diagrams and Windchill for configuration management.
