Job Description: Electrical Assembly Technician (Manufacturing Standards & Documentation)
Job Summary
To carry out the electrical assembly of systems (such as control panels and racks) including crimping, soldering, and working from detailed cable plans and technical drawings. This role also includes responsibility for documenting manufacturing procedures and helping define standards to ensure consistency, quality, and repeatability in production.
Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble wiring systems, racks, and enclosures to detailed electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Perform soldering, crimping, and routing of cables according to specifications.
  • Interpret and work from cable plans, layout drawings, and BOMs (bills of materials).
  • Carry out electrical testing and fault-finding on assemblies.
  • Create, update, and maintain manufacturing process documentation (build instructions, quality checks, tooling guides, etc.).
  • Assist in defining and improving manufacturing standards and practices.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering team to optimize build quality and efficiency.


Ideal Education & Qualifications (UK)
Essential:

  • Level 3 qualification (e.g., BTEC Level 3 Diploma, NVQ Level 3, or City & Guilds Level 3) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Practical experience in electrical assembly, panel wiring, or cable assembly.

Desirable:

  • HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification (??)
  • Prior experience in writing work instructions.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Proactive and methodical approach to documenting processes.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement principles (Lean, 5S, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills - able to liaise with engineering and production teams.
