A well-regarded secondary school in Portsmouth is seeking a skilled and committed Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis, starting as soon as possible.

This is a key leadership role, ideal for someone with a strong understanding of SEND in secondary education and a passion for inclusive practice.



Role Overview

As SENCO, you will lead the school's SEND provision, ensuring that students with additional needs receive tailored support to thrive academically and socially. You will work closely with teaching staff, support teams, families, and external agencies to develop and implement effective strategies.



Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage SEND provision across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Coordinate EHCPs and ensure statutory compliance
  • Support staff in identifying and meeting student needs
  • Monitor progress and lead on interventions
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals


Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to work towards it)
  • Experience working in a secondary school setting
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills
