Job Title: MEP Engineering Lead
Location: Portsmouth Region
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time (38 hours per week)

Company Overview
I am seeking a MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Process) Engineering Lead to support the Engineering Manager in delivering a major new build reservoir project, the first in the South West in over 40 years. This is a rare opportunity to move beyond the typical water AMP cycle and be part of a landmark infrastructure programme that will have a lasting impact on the local area. The project is technically challenging, high-profile, and runs through to 2033, offering long-term stability, professional growth, and the chance to work on something truly different.

In this role, you will manage design reviews, resolve technical queries, and ensure compliance with safety standards and contractual timelines. You will lead specific MEP engineering work packages, act as the technical lead on smaller project components, and ensure accurate data is provided for contractors. Collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders will be central to ensuring alignment and maintaining engineering assurance across the programme.

The Role
As MEP Engineering Lead, you will coordinate and oversee mechanical, electrical, and process engineering activities across the project. You’ll chair technical meetings and workshops, manage the resolution of design queries, and ensure compliance with standards and the Health & Safety Management Plan. This is an opportunity to be at the heart of a technically complex and high-profile infrastructure project, where your expertise will directly contribute to a landmark programme that is shaping the region’s future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair meetings with Design Guardians to track progress and resolve issues.

  • Manage responses to technical queries and design submissions from contractors.

  • Monitor and review Design Guardian performance against KPIs.

  • Lead collaborative planning with contractors and technical workshops with operations teams.

  • Provide MEP engineering representation at Early Warning meetings.

  • Deliver reports and updates to the Engineering Manager on progress, risks, and forecasts.

  • Review contractor programmes monthly to inform resource planning.

  • Produce engineering-led papers to support governance and stakeholder engagement.

Key Requirements

  • Degree in an Engineering-related discipline.

  • Significant experience in design management within major infrastructure projects.

  • Strong understanding of the design process and commercial implications.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Ability to coordinate inputs from multiple parties and deliver to deadlines.
