Estimator / Quantity Surveyor

Blaymires Recruitment is working with a specialist commercial refurbishment contractor based in Portsmouth who is searching for an Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join the team.The company operates as a principal contractor and undertakes a variety of commercial refurbishment projects for a wide range of clients including, Schools, Hospitals, Local Authority, MoD, Hotels and Retail with projects ranging from £100K to £5M.The company is going through an exciting period of growth and will consider applications from either an experienced Estimator / Quantity Surveyor or a stand-alone Estimator who has refurbishment or fit-out experience.Responsibilities will include:

  • Projects - Commercial refurbishments.
  • Provide estimated costs of proposed projects and survey/cost completed works.
  • Prepare detailed forward plans of work commitments and appropriate labour requirements.
  • Liaise with departmental staff, client departments, contractors, suppliers and statutory authorities in matters relating to work as appropriate.
  • Monitor and control the day-to-day finance of all estimated contracts, up to and including production of final accounts.
  • Order and ensure that materials, equipment and plant detailed in specifications and drawings for construction or improvement work are ordered in accordance with tendering procedures.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, training workshops.
  • Liaise with specialists and consultants as appropriate to obtain assistance and advice.

Qualifications and key skills required:

  • Will have at least 5 years' experience working on commercial tenders.
  • Be commercially astute.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Be able to work well within a team environment.
  • Be ambitious and determined.
  • Be able to work with project values up to £2M.
  • Knowledge on the use of Microsoft project (or similar) is desirable.
  • Experience with NEC & JCT contracts is desirable.
