Full-Time Teacher of Geography Required - Outstanding Portsmouth School (September 2025 Start - Key Stage 5 Essential)
Our Outstanding school in the vibrant and historic city of Portsmouth, Hampshire, seeks a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Teacher of Geography to join our thriving Humanities department and make a profound difference to the geographical understanding, analytical prowess, and critical thinking capabilities of our students across Key Stage 3 and, crucially, Key Stage 4 and 5, commencing in September 2025.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Planning, preparing, and delivering highly effective and stimulating Geography lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs and aspirations of our students across all key stages, integrating local and global geographical contexts relevant to Portsmouth.
- Fostering students' deep understanding of key physical and human geographical concepts, theories, and their real-world applications, with a strong emphasis on the comprehensive demands of the A-Level specification.
- Encouraging rigorous critical thinking, data analysis (including qualitative and quantitative approaches), and the development of sophisticated fieldwork skills.
- Assessing and tracking student progress in Geography across all key stages, providing insightful and constructive feedback, and implementing effective intervention strategies to ensure exceptional outcomes, particularly for A-Level students.
- Contributing actively to the development, implementation, and rigorous review of the Geography curriculum across all key stages, ensuring alignment with examination specifications and providing extensive opportunities for fieldwork and investigative projects.
- Utilising and contributing to the development of high-quality Geography resources, including digital mapping tools (GIS), contemporary case studies, and engaging practical activities.
- Contributing to extracurricular activities that promote geographical exploration, environmental awareness, and global citizenship within the school community (e.g., Geography clubs, conservation projects, fieldwork trips).
- Collaborating effectively with colleagues within the Humanities department and across the wider school to foster a rich and interdisciplinary learning environment.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and keep abreast of current developments in geographical scholarship and pedagogy, with a strong focus on A-Level teaching and assessment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- A degree in Geography or a closely related highly relevant field (e.g., Environmental Science with a strong geographical component).
- Successful and demonstrable experience teaching Geography across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and, crucially, A-Level.
- A strong and up-to-date understanding of the A-Level Geography curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
- Exceptional pedagogical skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, particularly the academic rigour and depth required at Key Stage 5.
- A profound passion for Geography and the ability to inspire and stretch students' critical thinking and analytical abilities concerning global and local challenges.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- A steadfast commitment to the safeguarding and well-being of students and the promotion of geographical literacy and environmental responsibility within the vibrant Portsmouth community.
