Full-Time Teacher of Maths Required - Outstanding Portsmouth School (September 2025 Start - Key Stage 5 Essential)

Our Outstanding school in the vibrant and historic city of Portsmouth, Hampshire, seeks a dedicated and experienced Full-Time Teacher of Maths to join our thriving department and make a profound difference to the mathematical understanding, analytical prowess, and problem-solving capabilities of our students across Key Stage 3 and, crucially, Key Stage 4 and 5, commencing in September 2025.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering highly effective and stimulating Maths lessons that cater to the diverse learning needs and aspirations of our students across all key stages, integrating real-world applications relevant to Portsmouth's context.
  • Fostering students' deep understanding of key mathematical concepts, theorems, and their applications, with a strong emphasis on the comprehensive demands of the A-Level and potentially Further Maths specifications.
  • Encouraging rigorous logical reasoning, critical thinking, and the development of sophisticated problem-solving strategies.
  • Assessing and tracking student progress in Maths across all key stages, providing insightful and constructive feedback, and implementing effective intervention strategies to ensure exceptional outcomes, particularly for A-Level students.
  • Contributing actively to the development, implementation, and rigorous review of the Maths curriculum across all key stages, ensuring alignment with examination specifications and providing opportunities for enrichment and challenge.
  • Utilising and contributing to the development of high-quality Maths resources, including advanced digital tools, mathematical software, and challenging problem sets tailored to high-achieving students.
  • Contributing to extracurricular activities that promote mathematical exploration, competition, and engagement within the school community (e.g., Maths clubs, Olympiads, university preparation).
  • Collaborating effectively with colleagues within the Maths department and across the wider school to foster a rich and interdisciplinary learning environment.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching practice and keep abreast of current developments in mathematics education and pedagogy, with a strong focus on A-Level and Further Maths teaching and assessment.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • A degree in Mathematics or a closely related highly quantitative field.
  • Successful and demonstrable experience teaching Mathematics across Key Stage 3, GCSE, and, crucially, A-Level (experience with Further Maths is highly desirable and advantageous).
  • A strong and up-to-date understanding of the A-Level Maths and Further Maths curricula and relevant examination specifications.
  • Exceptional pedagogical skills and the ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, particularly the academic rigor and depth required at Key Stage 5.
  • A profound passion for Mathematics and the ability to inspire and stretch students' logical thinking and advanced problem-solving abilities.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
