A specialist SEN school in Portsmouth is seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a full-time role, starting as soon as possible, ideal for someone with a passion for supporting vulnerable learners in a nurturing and structured environment.
Role Overview
You will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them engage with learning, manage behaviour, and develop positive relationships. The role requires patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to behaviour and emotional support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation
- Assist with learning activities and personalised interventions
- Work collaboratively with staff, families, and external professionals
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or additional needs
- Strong communication and behaviour management skills
- Calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach
- Relevant qualifications or training (desirable but not essential)
