Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary
Location: Portsmouth
Pay: £220 to £250 dependent on experience*
Start Date: May to July – End of Academic Year (Possibility for extension)
What’s the job?
As the SENCO, you’ll be a passionate advocate for inclusion, working closely with school leaders, staff, and governors to shape and implement our SEND policy. From overseeing daily SEND support to helping every child reach their full potential, this role is all about making a real difference! As a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you’ll also play a key part in creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all.

Who are you?
- A qualified teacher (QTS) with a passion for SEND
- Knowledge of SEND legislation and best practices (or a willingness to learn!)
- A fantastic communicator who can work with staff, families, and professionals

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and monitor the SEND policy in line with statutory requirements.
- Coordinate and oversee the provision for pupils with SEND, ensuring appropriate support and interventions.
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to identify and meet individual learning needs.
- Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to secure the best outcomes for pupils.
- Lead and manage the SEND team, providing guidance and professional development.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation, including the SEND Code of Practice.
- Act as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (if applicable), supporting the school’s safeguarding procedures.
