Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 17:00

An exciting opportunity has become available with a well-established freight forwarder based in Knowsley, Liverpool, who are looking to expand their team with an experienced Customs Clearance Clerk.


This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in customs, covering both import and export entries, and ideally with experience in alcohol clearances.

The Candidate:
• Experience in customs declarations and clearances
• Knowledge of Descartes software is a major advantage
• Previous experience handling alcohol entries is highly desirable
• Background in import and/or export procedures
• Strong understanding of HMRC compliance, with high attention to detail
• Experience liaising with customers, transport partners, or shipping lines
• Previous role in freight forwarding, logistics, or customs clearance
• Confident communication skills (written and verbal)
• Ability to manage and prioritise workloads effectively
• Strong customer service skills and decision-making ability
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Submit customs declarations using systems such as Descartes
• Manage full clearance procedures for imports and exports
• Ensure all documentation is accurate and submitted on time
• Handle entries for alcohol and other regulated goods
• Liaise with HMRC and other regulatory bodies
• Apply correct VAT and excise duties as needed
• Work with various currencies and apply exchange rates correctly
• Keep internal systems up to date and maintain compliance records
• Communicate with colleagues, customers, and suppliers as needed
