We have the pleasure of working with a rapidly expanding meat and poultry trading business based in Lancashire, who are looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to join their tight-knit team. This isn't your typical corporate environment - they're entrepreneurial, agile, and focused on getting things done without the red tape.

The Business

They specialise in sourcing from UK and European suppliers and trading into UK manufacturers and wholesalers. What sets them apart is their approach - they're ambitious, growing fast, and genuinely invested in their people. The team culture is strong, everyone knows each other, and decisions get made quickly. They've got serious growth plans and need someone who can help drive that forward.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be building and managing your own book of business. Cold calling, warm leads, trade shows across Europe, face-to-face meetings when needed. The usual mix of prospecting for new customers and suppliers whilst nurturing existing relationships. You'll negotiate your own deals, manage your margins, and have real autonomy over your trading decisions.

The role covers UK and European markets, so there's genuine scope here. You might find yourself at a German trade show one month, then closing a deal with a major UK manufacturer the next. It's varied, fast-paced, and the earning potential reflects that.

What They're Looking For

You need to come from food trading. Meat experience would be ideal but they'd consider someone from fish, dairy, or other protein trading backgrounds. The key thing is you understand the dynamics of food commodities, the seasonality, the supply chain challenges, and how to make money in volatile markets.

5-10 years of B2B sales experience is essential. You need to be comfortable picking up the phone, building relationships, and closing deals. European languages would be useful given their supplier base, but it's not essential if your trading experience is strong enough.

The Package

Base salary is negotiable depending on experience, with OTE of £50k-£80k. The bonus is uncapped and based on gross profit, so if you can trade, you can earn. They're also offering hybrid working (Fridays from home), 22 days holiday plus service days, and proper career development opportunities.

This is a genuine opportunity to join a business that's going places. They're not interested in time-wasters or people looking for an easy ride - they want someone who can hit the ground running and grow with them.

If you're an experienced sales professional looking for your next move, this could be exactly what you're after.
