Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a Waste Collection Driver to work with Preston City Council on a temporary basis. As part of a flexible pool of staff, you will be involved in all aspects of refuse and recycling collection — including skip wagon driving.
The incoming candidate will play a key role in ensuring efficient and timely waste collection services, and must be available to work on Bank Holidays to help ensure all rounds are completed as scheduled.
Main Duties
- Operate vehicles safely and efficiently for the collection of refuse and recyclables
- Drive and operate skip wagons as required
- Work with a small team of crew members, ensuring duties are completed professionally and collaboratively
- Move and empty wheeled bins and refuse sacks, including heavy lifting in various weather conditions
- Maintain the Council’s standards of health and safety at all times
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and members of the public as required
- Assist in completing waste collection rounds, ensuring all properties are serviced in a timely manner
- Undertake vehicle checks and ensure any defects are reported and recorded properly
Essential Criteria
- Full UK driver's license
- A valid HGV driving licence with proven experience operating HGV vehicles
- Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a small team effectively
- Conscientious, flexible, and trustworthy, with a commitment to high productivity
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Positive attitude with a proactive and responsible approach to work
