Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking a Waste Collection Driver to work with Preston City Council on a temporary basis. As part of a flexible pool of staff, you will be involved in all aspects of refuse and recycling collection — including skip wagon driving.

The incoming candidate will play a key role in ensuring efficient and timely waste collection services, and must be available to work on Bank Holidays to help ensure all rounds are completed as scheduled.

Main Duties

  • Operate vehicles safely and efficiently for the collection of refuse and recyclables
  • Drive and operate skip wagons as required
  • Work with a small team of crew members, ensuring duties are completed professionally and collaboratively
  • Move and empty wheeled bins and refuse sacks, including heavy lifting in various weather conditions
  • Maintain the Council’s standards of health and safety at all times
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and members of the public as required
  • Assist in completing waste collection rounds, ensuring all properties are serviced in a timely manner
  • Undertake vehicle checks and ensure any defects are reported and recorded properly

Essential Criteria

  • Full UK driver's license
  • A valid HGV driving licence with proven experience operating HGV vehicles
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to lead a small team effectively
  • Conscientious, flexible, and trustworthy, with a commitment to high productivity
  • Physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Positive attitude with a proactive and responsible approach to work
