We have a great opportunity for a Materials Engineers to work on complex, innovative and world leading projects such as Tempest, Typhoon and F-35 Lightning II. The role is a deployed placement within the AM Process & Capability team within Additive Manufacturing and involves providing at elbow technical support and governance oversight with respect to additive manufacturing processing and materials use; supporting in-house manufacturing capability and external supply chain processing capability and assurance; supporting process and capability development activities aligned to the AM strategy (metallic and polymer); supporting the Materials Governance activities related to Additive Manufacturing across the Air Sector such as writing of specifications, conducting audits and supporting production. You will contribute to co-ordinating work and supervising others work, coaching, and providing on the job training.


Responsibilities

  • This role typically requires a degree or HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in STEM related subject e.g. Materials Science, Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering. Relevant knowledge, experience and product expertise can offset these qualification requirements * Approximately 2+ years - 5 years experience in facility operational validation (preferably aerospace), alongside formal education requirements
  • The main area of knowledge required to perform the job is Materials Science, preferably aligned to the the additive manufacture, evaluation and testing of components. An understanding of general theories and applications covering manufacture would be beneficial.
  • In addition to the above, knowledge in the following areas is benficial:- Knowledge of some aspects of customer support, IT/computing, process assurance and/or auditing.
  • Knowledge of several aspects of airframe engineering, design engineering, manufacturing, quality, and test engineering is also expected.
  • An understanding of the main phases of an airframe design product lifecycle.
  • An awareness of the importance of operational governance in achieving product integrity.
  • Chartered Status or willingness to achieve chartership.


The Individual

  • You will have good oral communication skills with respect to the exchange of factual information, responding to queries, providing simple explanations, providing advice/discussing ideas on a daily basis; informal presentations, persuading or influencing others on the basis of firm supportive evidence, arguing against vague or conflicting evidence.
  • You will have good written communication skills with respect to originating reports, generating test plans, approval programs.
  • Experience of working with external customers, suppliers and partners
  • Experience of managing your own tasks to meet required outcomes and project requirements
