Virtual Financial Controller (FC) - Assistant Manager or Manager - Accountancy Practice
Hybrid - Theale, SW Reading


Job Summary: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Manager for a Virtual Financial Controller (FC) role. This position is pivotal in delivering high-quality management accounting services and financial reporting to our diverse portfolio of clients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in producing management accounts, preparing board packs, budgeting, and handling VAT returns, while offering exceptional service in an outsourcing capacity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver accurate and timely management accounts for clients, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Develop and present Board packs to clients, providing financial insights and actionable recommendations.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with clients to design effective financial strategies.
  • Handle VAT returns preparation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with HMRC regulations.
  • Collaborate with Senior Managers and stakeholders to improve workflows and enhance service delivery.
  • Train and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and technical support as needed.
  • Assist in financial reporting, including preparation of balance sheets, P&L statements, and other relevant documentation.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients, building and sustaining strong working relationships.
  • Actively identify opportunities to streamline processes and provide value-added services to clients.
  • Ensure all assigned projects are delivered within agreed timelines and budgets.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent) or part-qualified with extensive experience in management accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of management accounting, VAT regulations, and financial reporting standards.
  • Previous experience in an outsourcing or virtual accounting role is preferred.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or others).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • A collaborative approach with the ability to work independently and manage multiple client accounts.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality work.
