Wintel Engineer - greater Reading (5 days onsite) - British National - Eligible for SC Clearance

Are you a Wintel Engineer who enjoys delivering and supporting critical IT projects for high profile government clients?

We are working with a well-known consultancy looking to engage a Wintel Engineer to join their team.

The role:

You will be overseeing the full project lifecycle of Wintel-focused initiatives - from planning through to implementation. You'll work with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within scope. In addition to providing hands-on technical insight and supporting strategic decisions around infrastructure deployment and maintenance, the work will also include project coordination.
What you'll be doing:

  • Taking ownership of Wintel-related projects, ensuring structured delivery and successful outcomes
  • Coordinating timelines, resources, and deliverables while managing risk and dependencies
  • Working across server and workstation infrastructure, guiding implementations and upgrades
  • Liaising with vendors and internal technical teams to design and roll out solutions
  • Supporting documentation, technical standards, and disaster recovery preparedness
  • Keeping compliance and security front-of-mind in every phase of delivery
  • Acting as a key point of contact for stakeholder communication and alignment

I am therefore keen to speak with candidates who have

  • Proven background in managing projects within Microsoft Windows Server environments
  • Strong technical understanding of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and PKI
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware/ESXi or Hyper-V
  • Working knowledge of cloud ecosystems, ideally Azure or AWS
  • Confident diagnosing and troubleshooting infrastructure-level issues
  • A practical approach to root cause analysis and long-term resolution planning
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and documentation capabilities
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery planning and business continuity support
