Job Title: Civil Engineer (Rail Earthworks & Drainage)
Location: Sonning (Reading area), with initial work in Swindon
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum
Contract Type - Fulltime, Permanent

 

We're looking for a Civil Engineer, ideally with rail experience, to support a major infrastructure project focused on earthworks and drainage across the western rail network.

 

You'll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle-from design through to delivery and close-out. The role begins in Swindon during pre-construction and transitions to site-based work in Sonning once construction starts in 2025.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Civil Engineer:

 

  • Support design development to ensure buildability
  • Plan access and construction methods with the supply chain
  • Liaise with stakeholders during pre-construction
  • Coordinate temporary site facilities with land agents
  • Assist with procurement and supply chain selection
  • Identify public interface risks and support mitigation planning
  • Lead mobilisation of site facilities and team
  • Manage subcontractors and on-site operations
  • Oversee engineering and quality throughout the build
  • Work under NEC4 contract terms
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental standards on site
  • Contribute to assessing and tracking project viability

 

What We're Looking For:

 

  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • ICE Graduate, Incorporated, or Chartered Membership
  • SMSTS and CSCS card required
  • PTS certification preferred (can be provided)
  • Rail sector experience desirable
